Exploring Cultural and Literary Heritage: HIMASASING’s Cultural Tour to Kota Tua Museums

Jakarta, December 3, 2024 – On a breezy Tuesday in Jakarta, the English Literature Student Association (HIMASASING) went on a cultural exploration that transformed traditional learning into an immersive experience. The “Cultural Explore: Indonesia’s Traditions and the Connection Between Art and Literature” tour brought together 38 English Literature students from the class of 2022 to 2024 on a journey through the heart of Jakarta’s rich cultural landscape.

The day began early, with students gathering at the center of the landscape of Kota Tua that has always promised to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and cultural understanding. From 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, the group explored three iconic museums, each offering a unique window into Indonesia’s diverse heritage.

Our first stop was the Jakarta History Museum, where students delved into the city’s historical evolution. The museum’s exhibits painted a vivid picture of Jakarta’s past, allowing students to trace the cultural and historical threads that have shaped the nation’s capital. Next, the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics opened up a world of artistic wonder. Here, students immersed themselves in Indonesia’s rich artistic traditions, examining intricate ceramic works and exploring the depth of the country’s visual heritage. The final destination was the Bank Indonesia Museum, which offered a unique perspective on the nation’s economic journey. Through carefully curated exhibits, students gained knowledge into Indonesia’s historical and economic milestones, understanding how economic development intertwines with cultural progress.

Leading this extraordinary expedition was Natasha Claudia Sartika Hutagalung, the Chief Executive and Head of HIMASASING’s Multimedia Division. As part of the organization’s annual work program, the tour was planned to provide an enriching experience for all participants. Accompanying the students was Ms. Tri Rahayu Mayasari, SS, M.Hum., our dedicated lecturer.

HIMASASING has demonstrated their dedication to creating impactful educational experiences that extend far beyond traditional classroom boundaries. By organizing such cultural tours, HIMASASING helps students to develop a more valuable understanding of their academic pursuits. As the day drew to a close, it was clear that this was more than just a museum tour. It was a journey of discovery, a celebration of Indonesia’s rich cultural diversity. The students returned not just with memories but with appreciation for the complexity of their cultural heritage.
